The 'Selfie' Series
The last in the ‘Selfie’ Series is about Pablo Picasso.
Self-portraiture is a genre that, by its very nature, is very intimate and Picasso, having succeeded as an artist very early in life, was one such artist who catalogued who he had become, creating a visual autobiography from youth to old age.
A truly prolific artist, he produced over 50,000 works of art during his lifetime, from paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and ceramics.
Painting his first self-portrait at 15 years old and his last at 90 years old: ‘Self-Portrait Facing Death’, his long career captures his many styles, years, and artistic innovations.
My homage to Picasso ‘Auto Portrait’ 1907 depicts Picasso in his African Period. Picasso was influenced by Iberian Sculpture, which shows in his self-portrait with his wide eyes and sharp triangle nose.
